WSSBA Registry Rules & Information
Updated August 2019

1.0

WSSBA

The WSSBA is a Limited Liability Corporation (LLC) that was established in 2013 under the laws of the State of Nevada.

2.0

WSSBA OBJECTIVES

The primary objectives of the WSSBA are to:

2.1

Provide registration paperwork to Shiloh Shepherd Breeders and Owners in a timely, efficient, and economical manner.

2.2

Recognize the achievements of WSSBA-registered Shilohs in various performance areas.

2.3

Maintain records of health data for WSSBA-registered Shilohs.

3.0

ADMINISTRATION

The WSSBA is run by two Co-Registrars, which are volunteer positions.

The Co-Registrars’ responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

3.1

Determination of Registry policies and procedures.

3.2

Day-to-day administration of the Registry.

3.3

Assignment of Registration Numbers.

3.4

Creation of Registration Certificates and Pedigrees.

3.5

Tracking of Health Data.

3.6

Tracking of Performance Titles.

3.7

Issuing Performance Awards and Certificates.

3.8

Creating/Maintaining the WSSBA Web Site.

The WSSBA Registry also has a Steering Committee (four volunteer positions).  On an as-needed basis, these individuals assist in the determination of WSSBA Policy.

4.0

DUAL REGISTRATION

The WSSBA Registry permits dual registration with other Shiloh Shepherd Registries, provided the “other” Registry also allows dual registration.

5.0

ELIGIBILITY

For a litter of puppies to be eligible for registration with the WSSBA, the litter's Sire or Dam must be registered with the WSSBA.

6.0

WSSBA REGISTRATION NUMBERS

Each WSSBA Shiloh Shepherd is issued a Registration Number when it first comes into the WSSBA Registry, either as a puppy or as an adult.

Once a Shiloh is issued a WSSBA Registration Number, it remains that Shiloh’s registration number forever.

WSSBA Registration Numbers are five-digit numbers that are constructed as follows:

WYY### --- Where:

W =          WSSBA

YY =         The current year (i.e., 13 for 2013, etc.)

### =       A sequential number beginning with 001

7.0

WSSBA REGISTRATION CODES

Due to the simplicity of the WSSBA’s Registration Number scheme, each Shiloh is also assigned a Registration Code, which provides specific information about that Shiloh, including but not limited to:

  • 2-digit kennel name code, indicating the kennel of origin

  • Genetic makeup of the Shiloh, such as:

    P = Pure Shiloh
G = German Shepherd Outcross (and Percentage)
W = White Shepherd Outcross (and Percentage)
F = Foundation Shiloh (and Percentage)

  • Date of birth

  • M# and F# for each male/female puppy

  • Applicable Suffixes, including:

    B = Breedable Status
    C = Companion Status
    U = Upgradeable Status
    T = Conditional Status
    R = Retired
    D = Deceased

A Shiloh’s Registration Code might change as its circumstances change (i.e., Upgradeable to Breedable, Retired to Deceased, etc.)

8.0

REGISTRATION STATUSES AND CERTIFICATES

The WSSBA Registry issues four different types of Registration Certificates, representing the following Registration Statuses:

WSSBA Breedable Registration

WSSBA Upgradeable Registration

WSSBA Companion Registration

WSSBA Conditional Registration

8.1         WSSBA BREEDABLE STATUS & REGISTRATION CERTIFICATES

WSSBA Breedable Registration Certificates are issued to:

·        Shilohs that currently hold a Breedable Certificate of Registration from one of the other Shiloh Shepherd Registries and whose owner wishes to dual-register (if applicable) or transfer them into the WSSBA; or

·        Shilohs eligible to be upgraded from WSSBA Upgradeable or WSSBA Companion status.

Note:    Breedable Status is NEVER assigned to puppies!

WSSBA Breedable Registration Certificates are on gold-bordered paper with a gold seal.

8.2         WSSBA UPGRADEABLE STATUS & REGISTRATION CERTIFICATES

WSSBA Upgradeable Registration Certificates are issued to:

·        Shilohs whose breeders denoted them with “Upgradeable” status during completion of their  litter’s WSSBA Litter Application & Placement Form; or

·        Breed-potential young adults transferred into the WSSBA Registry who have not yet competed health testing.

WSSBA Upgradeable Registration Certificates are on blue-bordered paper with a gold seal.

8.3        WSSBA COMPANION STATUS & REGISTRATION CERTIFICATES

WSSBA Companion Registration Certificates are issued to:

·        Shilohs whose breeders denoted them with “Companion” status during completion of their litter’s WSSBA Litter Application & Placement Form; or

·        Puppies or Adults who are spayed/neutered and will not be bred.

WSSBA Companion Registration Certificates are on silver-bordered paper with a silver seal.

8.4         WSSBA CONDITIONAL STATUS & REGISTRATION CERTIFICATES

WSSBA Conditional Registration Certificates are issued in cases when a breeding has taken place, and the sire or dam:

·        Is not of age for breeding; and/or

·        Has not completed the requirements for “Breedable” status

WSSBA Conditional Registration Certificates are on teal-bordered paper with no seal.

Once the sire and dam are issued Breedable certificates, the Breeder may apply to upgrade the puppies in the litter to Companion or Upgradeable status.

Note:    The WSSBA reserves the right to refuse to register a breeder’s litters, if “Conditional” litters happen too often, or we feel that this option is being abused.

9.0

PEDIGREES

With each registration certificate that is issued, the WSSBA will also provide a copy of that Shiloh's pedigree, personalized with Registered Name & WSSBA Registration Number.

10.0

UPDATING INFORMATION ON REGISTRATION CERTIFICATES

Owners may submit upgraded health or performance information about their WSSBA-Registered Shiloh at any time.

One updated certificate (with enhanced information) will be provided annually at no charge.  Once the gratis update has occurred, additional updates will be processed for a charge of $5.

11.0

DNA PARENTAGE/GENETIC MARKER REPORT

The WSSBA will direct applicants to UC Davis for the purpose of ordering their own DNA test kits for verification of parentage.  To apply for DNA for your Shiloh(s), access MyVGL at the UC Davis Veterinary Genetics Laboratory site:

https://www.vgl.ucdavis.edu/myvgl/login.html

If you have not yet created a MyVGL account with UC Davis, you will be required to do so.

When you are ready to order DNA kits from UC Davis, have the following information available:

          Shiloh Applicant’s Name
          Registration Number
          Gender
          Color
Sire’s Name and VGL Account (i.e., DNA) Number
Dam’s Name and VGL Account (i.e., DNA) Number

UC Davis charges $40 per dog.

Let us know if you'd like us to help you with this!

12.0

BREEDABLE AGE

To qualify for “Breedable” status and a Breedable Certificate of Registration, a Shiloh must be:

·         24+ Months of Age (Females) or

·         18+ Months of Age (Males)

AND fully health tested.

If the dam is under 24 months of age and/or the sire is under 18 months of age, and they have not completed all health testing, puppies can only be registered with Conditional status.

If the dam is over 84 months of age, the breeder must provide a letter from a veterinarian stating that the bitch is in good health and suitable for breeding.

13.0

14.0

REGISTERED NAMES OF SHILOH SHEPHERDS

The WSSBA limits Shilohs’ registered names to 30 characters, including all punctuation and spacing.

The registered name should include the Breeder’s kennel name, either at the beginning or the end of the name.

In the case of duplicate names, the owner will be notified so that an alternate name can be selected.

The WSSBA reserves the right to determine whether or not a name is appropriate.

Once a registered name is issued to a WSSBA-registered Shiloh Shepherd, it remains that Shiloh’s name forever.

14.1       Exception to Name-Change Rule

Sometimes, a Breeder has a slow-to-sell puppy, and must assign a registered name to that puppy in order to register the litter with the WSSBA.  If/When the Breeder ultimately sells the puppy, the new owner may choose a Registered Name for the puppy.  The WSSBA will re-issue the puppy’s registration certificate, at no charge, to reflect the name change.

15.0

REGISTERED KENNEL NAMES

The WSSBA gives breeders the right to reserve a “kennel name.”

Once a kennel name is reserved, no other breeder can use it.

Registering a kennel name with the WSSBA allows the breeder to have a listing on the WSSBA website.

There is no charge for this service.

16.0

17.0

WSSBA OUTCROSS PROGRAM

Understanding the Shiloh Shepherd has a limited gene pool, the WSSBA Registry supports the use of outcrosses to increase the health of that gene pool while still maintaining the Shiloh Shepherd type.

Potential outcrosses must be submitted to the WSSBA prior to breeding.  The WSSBA reserves the right to approve or deny any application for outcross.

The following paragraphs provide details about outcross eligibility.

17.1       HEALTH TESTING

To be considered for breeding within the WSSBA, any outcross potential male or female must provide health testing at the highest level to which their breed is tested, meeting (or preferably, exceeding) all Shiloh Shepherd requirements.

17.2       PEDIGREE

A minimum three generation pedigree should be provided along with health data on the parents and grandparents as well as however many littermates are available.

Included with this should be a temperament analysis and faults/virtues.

17.3       ELIGIBLE BREEDS

To be considered, any potential outcross must possess similar type and structure as the existing Shiloh Shepherd, and therefore must fall within the family of breeds that include, but are not limited to: the German Shepherd Dog, King Shepherd, Malinois, Tervuren, Groenendael, Byelorussian Shepherd, Bohemian Shepherd and White German Shepherd.

Care should be exercised to include only individuals who are already close to the Shiloh Shepherd type in order to maintain and perpetuate the existing breed.

Wolf-dogs and wolf-hybrids are expressly forbidden to be used as outcrosses for the WSSBA.

17.4       ELIGIBILITY FOR CONFORMATION SHOWING

First Generation (X1 suffix in registration number) and Second Generation (X2 suffix in registration number) Shiloh Shepherd outcrosses may be shown “as Shilohs” in conformation events, provided it is permitted by the organization that is hosting the event. Third Generation outcrosses do not carry an “X” suffix in their registration number, and are considered full Shilohs.

18.0

WSSBA CONFORMATION CHAMPIONSHIPS (i.e., "BREED" CHAMPIONSHIPS)

A WSSBA Conformation Championship is awarded to WSSBA-registered Shiloh Shepherds that accrue a total of 15 points in the conformation ring.  Points must be accumulated under three (3) or more judges, and must include at least two 3-point "majors" under two different judges.

Shilohs are eligible to earn Championship points once they have reached six (6) months of age.

In the WSSBA Conformation ring, Shiloh Shepherds also compete as “Puppies” until they are eighteen (18) months of age.

A Shiloh cannot earn more than five (5) points at any given show under one single judge.

Once points are verified, a WSSBA Championship Certificate is awarded, and the Shiloh carries the title “bCH” at the beginning of his/her registered name.

19.0

ACCUMULATION OF "GV" POINTS

When a Shiloh is named Best of Breed (BOB) or Best of Opposite Sex (BOS) in a conformation show, points are accumulated as follows:

  • The BOB earns one point for each Shiloh over 6 months of age that was entered. This includes one point for him/herself.

  • The BOS earns one point for each Shiloh over 6 months of age that was entered, including one point for him/herself, LESS ONE POINT, as he/she did not defeat the BOB.

It is this point tally that is used to determine each year's Conformation Award Winners.

Note:  Points accumulate for one year, and are reset to "0" at the start of the next year.

20.0

WSSBA ANNUAL CONFORMATION AWARDS

Each year, the WSSBA issues awards to recognize WSSBA-registered Shiloh Shepherds that have attained noteworthy accomplishments in the conformation ring during the previous year. These awards, which are based on the accumulation of "GV" points, are:

·         Grand Victor

·         Grand Victrix

·         National Select(s)

·         Puppy of the Year (6-18 Months of age)

·         Baby Puppy of the Year (2-6 Months of age)

Note: In the case of Puppy awards, award determination is based on performance.

Each winner receives a certificate indicating his/her title, and an award.

21.0

WSSBA GRAND CHAMPION

The WSSBA will bestow the title of “Grand Championship” award to WSSBA-Registered Shilohs that:

·         Are registered in the WSSBA, and are WSSBA Champions

·         Have been awarded Best of Breed by three or more different judges

·         Have accumulated 50 Grand Champion (GC) points*

·         Have defeated at least three Breed Champions overall

*Grand Champion (GC) points equal the number of GV points awarded (i.e., one point for each Shiloh defeated by the BOB, including him/herself). The only difference is, GV points are reset to "0" at the end of the year, while GC points accumulate from year to year.

Note: Accumulation of GC points is retroactive to the beginning of the WSSBA.

Once points are verified, a WSSBA Grand Championship Certificate is awarded, and the Shiloh carries the title “bGCH” at the beginning of his/her registered name.

22.0

REGISTRY OF MERIT (ROM)

Registry of Merit (ROM) is awarded to a Shiloh sire or dam, based on the achievements of its offspring.

Earning this title requires the accumulation of 250 points.  Once points are earned and verified, a WSSBA Registry of Merit Certificate is awarded, and the Shiloh carries the title “ROM” at the end of his/her registered name.

Point tabulation is as follows.
